පොලොන්නරුව
- Polonnaruwa was the second ancient capital of Sri Lanka, established after the fall of Anuradhapura in the 11th century.
- The city flourished under King Parakramabahu I (1153–1186), who developed it into a center of culture, trade, and irrigation.
- One of his greatest achievements was the Parakrama Samudra, a massive artificial lake that still provides water to the region today.
- Polonnaruwa is famous for its well-preserved ruins, including royal palaces, temples, stupas, and monasteries built from stone and brick.
- The Gal Vihara statues — four magnificent Buddha images carved from a single granite rock — are masterpieces of ancient Sinhalese art.
- The Quadrangle (Dalada Maluwa) area contains several of the most sacred shrines, including the Vatadage, built to protect the Sacred Tooth Relic.
- The city's layout reflects advanced urban planning, with a well-organized road network and complex irrigation systems.
- Polonnaruwa was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982, recognizing its historical and architectural significance.
- Today, Polonnaruwa is not only an archaeological treasure but also a living city, where ancient ruins blend beautifully with rural Sri Lankan life.
Our names are Jana and Perly. Jana is from the Czech Republic, Perly is a resident. We are life partners. Our paths have joined together to walk the same path and support each other in good and bad times.
We would like to support Polonnaruwa, the region and Sri Lanka in tourism, but especially we would like to raise awareness about Polonnaruwa, the region and Sri Lanka. In addition to education in the form of lectures, our work also includes practical ecological activities and concrete help to schools, poor children and nature.
We cooperate with local people, offering them job opportunities and experience. Tourism with us is different - travelers, in cooperation with local people, absorb local culture, traditions, customs, songs and dances, taste and often learn to cook local dishes, walk through beautiful nature, where an ordinary tourist hardly goes, try out practical things of the local people for themselves.
We cooperate with people from Europe in the form of lectures, education, we plan exhibitions of children's works in Europe, together we build a common journey.
We look forward to you - Jana and Perly
